I seem to have a thing for creating new words, so I decided to put them together in one place where I can access and edit my list often. Here goes:
Rednexican - person of redneck and mexican heritage
Friendference - reference you are between friends who are just meeting
Mommentary - a mother's (or mother-like) running commentary, and along that vein...
Momments - mom comments (often unsolicited)
Comfortfull - that perfect balance of having eaten the perfect amount, not too much, not too little
Uncomfortfull - Eating to the point of feeling like your food is going to pour out through your navel
SUVan - hybrid vehicle that's part Sport Utility Vehicle, part minivan
Fakus (Fake-us) - fake ficus tree indigenous to many American homes, but should never be displayed on an outside porch or patio
Hybeernation - Abstaining from alcohol use during the winter months because it is too cold to a) go out and buy beer, and/or b) Go to a bar.
Yintuition - the ESP one develops when their other half (Yang) is in distress
More to come...

Battlescars
My morning started with a text message from my husband which read "Does hair pulled out from the root grow back?" I called and reassured him that yes, hair pulled out from the root will indeed grow back. Not certain whether or not I wanted to know, I asked why, to which he responded "Well, we had a little accident this morning" and proceeded to tell me that Lauran was running and fell, directly into the path of Jacob using the Swivel Sweeper. This of course resulted in Lauran's hair being swept up, wrapped around the brush, and lots of crying. Bill said he unraveled as much of her hair as he could, but some got pulled out of her scalp from the root. When I got home, after covering the impacted areas with layers upon layers of kisses, I checked out the damage. While there is not any one big old bald spot, there are however several small bald patches. I imagine as the new hair grows in it will make for some interesting looks. To make the story more interesting though - my beautiful girl with the bald patches is the flower girl in a wedding in two weeks. The spots are still too tender to check, but I'm pretty sure a well-placed pony tail will mask it. Just in case though, does anyone know where I can get a mini-phony pony?

Too smart for her diapers
Lauran has successfully segued into her big girl bed - no problems with staying in her bed after you put her there (yet). She will however, sit at the end of her bed as she shouts, yells, or cries for someone to come get her when she's ready to get out of bed. A couple of nights ago she was crying, so I went up to see what was going on and she had dropped one of her books. Never mind that the room is black. She launches into the litany of reasons why she should not be in bed - I want to sleep in your bed, I'm not tired, I'm hungry, yada, yada, yada. Then Lauran revealed a clue as to the depth of her intelligence--she pulled a card out of Jacob's bag of tricks. My two and half year old, UNPOTTY-TRAINED daughter said "But I have to go bafroom". We are soooooooooo going to be in trouble with this one. And no, it did not work :)

Attaboy!
For those of you who enjoy my coordinational challenges, you'll be amused (or possibly concerned) to know that the apple has not fallen far from the tree. My poor little man seems to have inherited that particular damaged gene from me. He came home from daycare last week with a scabbed-over scratch across the bridge of his nose. How did that happen you ask? Falling off the swingset? Nope. Wrestling with one of his friends? Not even close. Keep in mind this is my spawn we are talking about. My superchild sustained a reading injury. Yes, you read that correctly - he scraped the bridge of his nose while READING! Apparently he somehow got in an altercation with the spine of the book and the book won. Attaboy! In all fairness, I should pay homage to my guardian angel who keeps my from significantly damaging myself. Thank you angel for only usually allowing me to inflict minor wounds on myself! Maybe I'm looking at it backwards - maybe it's not a challenge, but a carefully honed skill. Remind me of that perspective next time I'm in the ER with my son after he has damaged himself while sitting still on the couch. Like that ever happens!

Pajamas and Trees
I got a good dose of child-like wonder last night. It was nothing huge - just Lauran taking in satiny pajama bottoms for the first time. It was the way she did it. She used each and every sense available to her in order to study and marvel at such a wonder as satiny pants. She touched them and then delighted in the new slippery texture, rubbing her little hands up and down the legs and then flapping her hands back and forth across her thighs feeling the satin on her palms as well as the back of her hands, squealing with laughter the whole time. So wide-eyed. So innocent. It made me laugh as well, but even more so it made me think. When was the last time I really took the time to thoroughly enjoy and take pleasure in anything? I couldn't remember, so this morning this sun was shining on a small fir tree and it was stunningly green, so rather than rushing off I took a minute to enjoy it's simple beauty. And you know what? I can still see it when I close my eyes because I took the time to really appreciate it. The new challenge is to try to focus on identifying and taking in the wonders around me instead of the fire in my lungs when I run tomorrow morning.

Up, Up, Up and Away
Jacob has asked several times over the past week if we could throw everything out of our house. The only thing I could come up with was that he was trying to tell me we needed to clean, but it truly was not that bad, so he must have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I finally figured it out this morning when he asked again, I asked him why and he said "To make the house empty". We have been watching the Disney Pixar film "Up" a LOT lately. I asked him if he wanted the house empty so it would float if we tied balloons to it. He said yes and explained that in "Up" "Mr. Fredrickslin"'s house floats when he throws all of his things out of it. Adorable, right? I have to admit, I did pause and struggle with whether or not to crush the innocent childhood disillusionment of my blue eyed toe-head with the chubby baby paws. I then had a flash of him throwing things out of his bedroom window and realized that it had to be done. It took quite a bit of convincing, but I'm pretty sure I have successfully saved our belongings from certain shattering. I think I'll still keep watch for a growing balloon stash though.

Little but Mighty
Mondays are my late nights at work. Some Mondays I get home after the kids are in bed. Last night was one of those nights. While I am truly okay with my work schedule, I also have the obligatory mother's guilt about it, so when Lauran started crying last night when she woke up and realized I was home, of course I went up to give her a hug & kiss, yada yada yada, Lauran somehow ended up in our bed. It is amazing how someone so small can take up most of a king sized bed! At various points her head was on top of mine, I had tiny feet in my back, got elbowed in the face, and her feet were on her pillow instead of her head. At one point we looked like an "H", with Bill & I being the verticals and Lauran the horizontal! Throughout all of it though, it never occurred to me to pick her up and put her back in her crib. Because each time I was woken up I opened my eyes and saw this button nosed, chubby cheeked, absolute angel sleeping next to me, and there was no place else I wanted her to be besides snuggled up next to me.
